Wi-Fi 6E opened the 6GHz band in 2021. The IPTV community tested it and found real benefits for streaming.

Wi-Fi 6E routers became widely available in late 2021 from Netgear, Asus, and TP-Link.

The 6GHz band is uncongested — no legacy devices compete for it, unlike the crowded 5GHz band.

In practical streaming tests, 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E achieved 800Mbps+ at short range consistently.

For 4K streaming requiring 25Mbps, 6GHz is massively over-specified — the benefit is consistency.

I tested 4K streaming in a high-rise with 40+ visible Wi-Fi networks. 6GHz was interference-free.

The same 4K stream that stuttered on 5GHz was flawless on 6GHz in the same environment.

Initially only flagship phones — Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and some premium laptops in 2021.

TV streaming devices took longer. Amazon Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen (2022) was among the first.

Practically, the full benefit came in 2022-2023 as devices caught up to the 2021 router hardware.

Building a 6E capable home in 2021 was a forward investment that paid off as devices arrived.

My 2021 Wi-Fi 6E router now serves several 6E devices including streaming boxes and phones.

For apartment dwellers with many competing networks, 6GHz is genuinely transformative.
