Why 4K buffers at night but HD works fine — explained

Hi everyone! Starting this thread to discuss the topic and hear from others with similar experiences. Happy to answer questions and share more details if needed.
 
Peak hour network congestion. 4K requires more bandwidth headroom.
 
Run a speed test at 8PM vs 2AM. If speed drops significantly at 8PM it's congestion.
 
35Mbps should handle HD fine but 4K at minimum needs stable 25Mbps. At 35 there's no buffer.
 
Buffer margin is important. The app needs sustained speed not peak speed.
 
I switched to 1080p in the evenings and 4K during daytime. Quality difference is minimal on my 55 inch.
 
Smart adaptive approach. Some apps do this automatically with adaptive streaming.
