An Android TV box gives you the most flexible IPTV experience of any streaming device. This guide covers the complete setup from unboxing to daily use.

Choosing an Android TV Box

Mecool KM7 Plus: Best value for IPTV. Amlogic S905X4 chipset, genuine Android TV, 4K HDR support including H.265 hardware decode. Good thermal management for sustained streaming.

Xiaomi Mi Box S: Budget-friendly, Google-certified Android TV. Good for 1080p IPTV and basic 4K. Limited storage.

Nvidia Shield Pro: Premium option. Unmatched performance. Worth the price for users who also use Plex or want the absolute best experience.

Initial Setup

1. Connect to your TV via HDMI and to your router via Ethernet (strongly recommended).
2. Complete the Android TV setup wizard. Sign in with a Google account.
3. Settings → Device Preferences → Date and Time: Set your correct time zone (important for EPG accuracy).
4. Settings → Device Preferences → Security: Enable Unknown Sources for APK installation.

Installing TiviMate

Install Downloader from Google Play. Open Downloader, enter the TiviMate APK URL, and install. Configure these settings after adding your playlist:

Hardware Decode: Enable explicitly (not Auto)
Codec Buffering: Enable — helps with audio/video sync
EPG Timeshift: Set to your local time zone offset

Optimising Display Settings

Set the output resolution in Android TV settings to match your TV's native resolution (usually 4K/2160p at 60Hz). Some boxes default to 1080p even when 4K is available — check Settings → Display and manually set the resolution.

Enable Match Content Frame Rate if your box supports it. This switches the TV to the native frame rate of the content being played (25fps for UK broadcasts, 30fps for US, 24fps for film), which eliminates judder.

Storage Management

Android TV boxes come with limited storage. Manage it:
• Install only the apps you actively use
• Clear app caches monthly via Settings → Apps
• Delete the Downloader app's download history after installing apps (it stores APK files that take significant space)
• External USB storage can expand capacity on boxes with USB 3.0 ports

Improving Performance Over Time

Performance degrades gradually on Android TV boxes due to accumulated app data. Monthly maintenance: clear all app caches, restart the box fully (power off, not just standby), and check for firmware updates from the manufacturer. If performance significantly degrades after 12–18 months, a factory reset returns it to like-new performance.
