My Android TV box is about 18 months old and has started running noticeably slower. Channel switching takes longer, the interface is sluggish, and the box gets quite warm during extended use. Is this normal and what can I do to improve performance?

18 months of use without any maintenance will cause gradual performance degradation on Android TV boxes. Here is the systematic optimisation approach:\n\n**Storage and memory cleanup:**\n1. Check available storage: Settings → Device → Storage. If you have less than 1 GB free, clear app caches or uninstall unused apps\n2. Clear all app caches: Settings → Apps → see all apps → clear cache individually, or use a cleaner app\n3. Restart the box completely — do not just leave it on standby. A full power cycle clears RAM.

**Apps and background processes:**\n4. Disable or uninstall pre-installed apps you do not use (these run background processes)\n5. Check which apps are running in the background: Settings → Apps → Running\n6. Some Android TV boxes have a built-in "Kill Background Apps" function in the settings — use it before launching your IPTV app

UK user — my 2-year-old Mecool was sluggish. Found the culprit: a pre-installed "system optimiser" app that was itself consuming significant CPU and RAM in the background. Disabled it and the box immediately returned to near-original performance.

Ireland — warmth under load is normal for Android TV boxes. Sustained 4K decoding generates heat. However, if the box is hot to the touch even when idle, something is running in the background consuming resources. Check background app list.

Thermal throttling is the connection between heat and sluggishness. When the processor gets too hot, it automatically reduces its clock speed to prevent damage. Result: slower channel switching and occasional buffering even if the internet is fine. Ensure the box has adequate ventilation — not enclosed in a cabinet, not stacked under another device.

Canada — firmware update sometimes helps with performance on older boxes if the manufacturer has released optimised firmware. Check the box manufacturer's website for your specific model. Some manufacturers are good at releasing performance improvements via firmware; others release nothing after the initial sale.

For TiviMate specifically: go to Settings → Playlists → your playlist → click "Update" to rebuild the EPG database. An outdated or corrupted EPG database grows over months and slows TiviMate significantly. Refreshing it regularly keeps the app fast.

Australia — if performance is significantly degraded after the steps above: factory reset the box. This returns it to like-new software state. You will need to reinstall apps and re-enter credentials, but performance will be restored. Back up any important data first.
