Sony Android TV: native IPTV app support and setup

Sony TVs running Android TV (not Google TV) have excellent IPTV app compatibility. Here is what I have found.
 
Sony Android TVs are among the best smart TVs for IPTV because they run full Android TV.
 
This means you can install TiviMate, XCIPTV, IPTV Smarters Pro, and other apps directly.
 
Can I install apps not available in the Google Play Store on Sony Android TV?
 
Yes. Enable unknown sources in settings, then sideload APKs via USB or Downloader app.
 
Models from 2019-2021 generally run Android TV. 2022 and newer models have switched to Google TV.
 
Google TV restricts sideloading compared to Android TV, which can complicate IPTV app installation.
 
On Google TV Sonys, you need to enable developer mode to sideload apps.
 
The process: Settings → System → About → click Build Version 7 times to enable developer mode.
 
The picture quality on Sony panels is also excellent — one of the best TV manufacturers overall.
 
I prefer older Sony Android TV models for IPTV specifically because of better app compatibility.
 
For buyers: if IPTV is important, specifically look for Sony X or A series 2020-2021 models.
