Trying to decide between a MAG device and an Android TV box. I have a non-technical household — my partner is not interested in tech and just wants to turn the TV on and watch. I am slightly more technical. Which device suits a mixed-tech household better?

I have followed the setup guide for my MAG box and entered the portal URL exactly as provided. When I turn on the MAG it shows "Loading portal..." and then either displays an error or just shows a blank black screen. No channel list appears. What should I check?

Final note: both apps receive regular updates. XCIPTV 4 was a significant improvement over 3. TiviMate is updated regularly with bug fixes. Neither is standing still, which is important for a long-term daily-use app.

Ireland — 100 Mbps broadband, Wi-Fi 6 router, Samsung Galaxy TV app. Occasional brief buffering around 8:30pm. Switched the streaming device from Wi-Fi to a powerline adapter and it improved significantly.

Multi-device flexibility is something I value. Different family members prefer different interfaces and devices — good that it accommodates that.

Chromecast with Android TV is a solid device for this use case. Good processing power for smooth 4K decode.

For budget Android: lower bitrate, disable automatic quality switching.
